I was waiting at stoplights last night, and saw these E-words. If “table were” the only “innocent mistake” I saw, I wouldn’t have snapped this picture!

Translations of Letters from Japanese Elementary Schools

One of the teachers at Tsukuba International School recently found a very good resource on the Chiba International Center website (http://www.mcic.or.jp/e_index.htm). In addition to many other interesting documents on the site, there is a page with translations in six languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, and Thai) of various letters that are sent out by Japanese schools.

If your children are enrolled in a Japanese elementary school, you might find this page useful in helping you decipher the letters that come home with your child.

Tsukuba Japenglish – 1

Engrish.com has been on top of my bookmarked websites for many years, and not surprisingly, Tsukuba is also awash with its own version of Engrish. With camera in hand, one needs only a few hours in Tsukuba Center and its environs to capture some of the best and most hilarious Engrish in Japan.

This week, allow me to begin a series on Tsukuba’s own Japenglish with this photo below:

I never knew that in Matsushiro there’s a place where you can specifically buy pigs. Check out the Matsushiro Shoppig Center!

What a Pity!

If you were going to go all the trouble of making a product, don't you think you'd run the name of your product past a few people before making the decision to use it?
