Farmers Begin Flooding Tsukuba`s Paddy Fields (April 27, 2021)
By Avi Landau

You might be surprised to know that the fields here are flooded very gradually, not with a gush but with a trickle, as water is released quite delicately from the irrigation canals (Matsushiro, Tsukuba)

After half a day, half a field is filled.

This field was flooded a day earlier (April 27, 2021)

And here is a sight I never tire of… an egret wading elegantly through the water. Usually very timid, this particular bird was saw excited about all the tadpoles she had found swimming around that area that she paid no attention to me as I got up real close for this shot. I guess she hadn’t had such good eating in a long time!
