When visitng the Tofuku-Ji Temple don`t forget to have a good look at the Nio guardian deity sculptures housed in the gate to the right of the main hall. These were rescused from the old Chuzen-Ji Temple on Mt Tsukuba (where the Mt Tsukuba Shrine now stands) when fanatics burned were destroying any vestiges of Buddhism on the mountain
